چکیده
We present an Hilbert space formulation for a set of implied volatility models introduced in [3] in which the authors studied conditions for a family of European call options, varying the maturing time and the strike price T an K, to be arbitrage free. The arbitrage free conditions give a system of stochastic PDEs for the evolution of the implied volatility surface σ̂t(T,K). We will focus on the family obtained fixing a strike K and varying T . In order to give conditions to prove an existence-and-uniqueness result for the solution of the system it is here expressed in terms of the square root of the forward implied volatility and rewritten in an Hilbert space setting. The existence and the uniqueness for the (arbitrage free) evolution of the forward implied volatility, and then of the the implied volatility, among a class of models, are proved. Specific examples are also given.

We conduct two experiements of the claim that people are overconfident. We develop new tests of overplacement which are based on a formal Bayesian model. Our two experiments, on easy quizzes, find overplacement. More precisely, we find apparently overconfident data that cannot be accounted for by a rational population of expected utility maximizers with a good understanding of the nature of the...

This paper considers the intersection of academic spatial analysis with the open source revolution. Its basic premise is that the potential for cross-fertilization between the two is rich, yet some misperceptions about these two communities pose challenges to realizing these opportunities. The paper provides a primer on the open source movement for academicians with an eye towards correcting th...

Despite the fact that conceptual models of individual decision making under risk are deterministic, attempts to econometrically estimate risk preferences require some assumption about the stochastic nature of choice. Unfortunately, the consequences of making different assumptions are, at present, unclear. In this paper, we compare two popular error specifications (Luce vs. Fechner), with and wi...

In this paper, we examine whether the business cycle plays a role in marriage and divorce. We use data on Spain, since the differences between recession and expansion periods across regions are quite pronounced in that country. We find that the unemployment rate is negatively associated with the marriage rate, pointing to a procyclical evolution of marriage; however the response of the divorce ...
